April 3, 2014 Don’t Put All of Your Eggs in One Basket…
Often we have heard organizations who have hosted fundraising events for several years say “We have a donor appreciation dinner and a silent auction and we really don’t have time to make it any more than that. Our donors are happy with what we do.” I say traditions are important, but establishing new traditions is even better. Keep your event fresh, keep them guessing, and keep your organization in the forefront of their minds.
My mantra is “Let’s make every minute of your event a fundraising minute for your cause.” You can do this by adding games, drawings, and by including an appeal.
Games are fun and it allows representatives from your organization the opportunity to connect with guests and potentially turn them into long term donors. Isn’t that what you want?
Another wonderful idea you do not want to exclude is the “Special Appeal.” Remember the old saying, “You have not because you ask not.”? Well, it’s true. You must ask your donors for money from time to time. This appeal is a hugely successful element we add to all of our events. We have helped organizations raise hundreds of thousands of dollars, over and above their silent and live auctions, by simply asking for donation.
Make every minute a revenue generating minute!
