May 29, 2015 Fundraising Game Prizes and The “WOW!” Factor

How much thought do you put into the prizes your nonprofit offers when extra revenue generating games and/or raffles are conducted during your fundraiser?  Do you simply pluck something from your inventory of silent auction items? That may not be the best tactic.

I recently taught a Benefit Auction Institute class where we discussed the importance of quality prizes.

Having appropriate rewards really motivates your guests to participate in extra revenue generators.  I often observe nonprofits offer a $50, $75 or $100 gift card to the winner of a game/raffle. These gift cards may be for nice restaurants but is it enough to really motivate your guests to participate?

Ronald McDonald House Charities of Alabama in Birmingham is one of our clients and we recently discussed a really GREAT prize for their Heads or Tails game.  The last person standing during their Heads or Tails game will win a Southwest Airlines ticket.  Now THAT is motivation!  We can’t wait to see the results of that choice this fall!

Think outside of the box when it comes to incentivizing your guests to help you raise money. What type of prize would make you jump at the chance to participate in a game or raffle? Start with that thought process and I just bet you’ll pick a winner (pun intended)!
