July 3, 2015 Sweet Land of Liberty
On this 4th of July holiday I am reminded of exactly how great our country really is. While we may not all agree on where we are or where we are headed as a country, we can all agree on one thing – we truly live in the greatest country in the world. I’ve traveled to many countries and loved every second of those experiences but there is NOTHING like coming home to America.
In 1776, representatives of the 13 colonies then fighting in the revolutionary struggle weighed a resolution that would declare their independence from Great Britain…this was the birth of America’s independence.
Today, we celebrate that independence in different ways with leisure activities. These include family get-togethers which often involve fireworks and outdoor barbecues, among other things. I think about the symbols of the holiday and one of the most common symbols is the American flag. I was driving down the road when I saw the flag in this photo and had to pull over and take a moment to simply gaze it at. It brought tears to my eyes and sent a chill up my spine. I was reminded of the service men and women – those who have fought, those who are fighting now and those who will continue to fight for the future of our independence. We can never repay these heroes enough for their service and sacrifice. To our military and veterans, thank you, thank you, thank you!
Take time this holiday to enjoy family and friends, reflect on the wonderful life you have in these great United States of America and thank a veteran or military person for serving our country.
Happy Independence Day and Happy 4th of July!
