July 24, 2015 Don’t Forget to Have FUN!
Jean and I have just returned from the National Auctioneers Association’s Conference and Show in Addison, Texas. We were joined by 1,200 auction professionals from across the world for what becomes one huge family reunion. While there we received world class education and lots of great opportunities for networking. We learned a lot, visited with old and new friends and had a really great time.
There is so much planning that goes into a conference, much like that of a nonprofit event. When I served as President of the Association in 2012 I was behind the scenes at the conference. Because of the workload involved to help pull such a large event off I had to constantly remind myself to enjoy the experience and have fun.
It is so easy when planning your nonprofit’s upcoming auction event to forget to have fun. You can get super stressed because there is so much to do. If you’ll set early deadlines and keep them managed everyone can stay on track and thus enjoy the experience.
Have FUN in everything you do and encourage the volunteers working on your event to do the same. You may have to remind yourself not to let negative or high maintenance volunteers bog you down. They have the best intentions for your organization but not always the best way of expressing them. Just smile and keep on keeping on.
Talk about having fun…this photo was taken at our recent NAA Conference and Show with past President Paul C. Behr, Tammy Miller and I at opening night festivities.
