April 22, 2016 “Time flies. It’s up to you to be the navigator.” – Robert Orben
I was reflecting on life the other day. Ya know, one tends to do that at the age of 52.
I was thinking about time and the value of it. And the lack of it. There is an old saying that time zips by more quickly as you get older. In today’s world, time seems to be moving at warp speed.
Time is all that we have and we need to make certain we make the most of it. A great quote that I found the other day read, “Don’t prioritize your schedule, schedule your priorities.” There are so many things to consume our time. We all get so stretched because of family, work, friends, and volunteering that we don’t schedule our priorities but prioritize our schedules. This can become exhausting.
Take time for yourself. In fact, schedule it! Do something that you enjoy to give yourself a mental break. This will help to refresh your mind and you’ll actually be more productive in the end.
I encourage you to focus on your passion. Helping others is my passion and I am sure many of you have the same passion. But limit your volunteer work to things you are truly passionate about so that you’ll make an impact on that organization. I found myself serving on several nonprofit boards at one time and felt I wasn’t able to give 100% to any of them.
Don’t forget to focus on yourself from time to time to ensure you are healthy, both mentally and physically.
