June 30, 2017 What Does the 4th of July Mean to You?
Many of us think about hamburgers, ribs, and family time during the 4th of July holiday. My husband and I love to enjoy our boat on the river with our two fur-baby pups.
Something I really love seeing during this holiday is our American flag.
Do you remember what the different aspects of our flag represent? Come on, we learned this in school. The 50 stars represent the 50 states that make up our country. Most of us remember this. But what about the rest?
The 13 stripes represent the thirteen British colonies that declared independence from the Kingdom of Great Britain. Those 13 colonies became our first states.
The colors also represent something as well. White signifies purity and innocence. Red, hardiness and valor. And the blue signifies vigilance, perseverance and justice (per Wikipedia).
I’ve traveled to many countries and I love experiencing other cultures. But there is nothing like landing back on American soil after travelling overseas. I love our country, and still believe we are the best country in the world.
This 4th of July holiday, I encourage you to stop and really reflect on our flag. She is beautiful and represents so much, not just to Americans but to the world over.
I hope you have a wonderful and safe holiday. God Bless America!
